A big thank you to John and the team for a successful reversal which took place in late January 2016. At the time of the reversal, I was 50 years old. 16 years before after the birth of my third child, I had a vasectomy. My second wife never had any children and was a few months of her fortieth birthday. To my surprise, she said why not? After that, we rang hospitals and checked online. Hi John, Please find attached my results from my surgery in March. The Embryologist said these results were very positive and he often does not see successful reversals and especially not at these levels. He did advise mobility was slightly below average but he said it could be argued as borderline and would hope for a natural conception within a year assuming no issues on my partners side. I just wanted to email to let you know my wife gave birth last Wednesday 25th November to a beautiful and healthy little girl called xx . We are writing to inform you that xx and I have successfully fallen pregnant through IVF. The original sperm results that we shared with you and the clinic, raised concerns regarding motility. We repeated the test 3 months later to find that the results has only slightly worsened. My egg count was significantly low for my age too. Whilst we continued to try, our chances seem to be getting less. It would have been 12 months since the operation at the end of this month. After two long months of treatment, we ended up conceiving via ICSI and we are both thrilled and delighted. So… after preparing for fertility treatment because they thought I might not be ovulating due to my periods I then got a positive test. Due to my last pregnancy ending in miscarriage 4 days before christmas I had to get the bleeding I was having checked out. I was then sent for a scan where they were unsure if it was a viable pregnancy, beginning of a miscarriage or potentially an ectopic. 2 awful days of waiting my bloods more than doubled and i was recanted to find the pregnancy was just early but had progressed…. and i might be having twins!! Although my wife and I held out hopes for children, the fact that I’d had a vasectomy 13 years ago meant that this was complicated at best. Dear John, You completed my vasectomy reversal in March 2017, after months of trying I eventually had a test completed in the December of 2017, and I was advised that mt count was low, however I had strong ‘swimmers’. Unfortunately we put an end to trying in January 2018, as our youngest son was diagnosed with Leukemia. This put a end to our plans on having a fourth. We are now nearly a year into XX’s treatment, and pleased to report that all is well, although we have a long road to go down still until his treatment can end. We had a nice surprise a few months ago, and as agreed on our consultation with you, felt that you should know. XX has fallen Pregnant, true to form, when you are not trying, it happens. We are all ‘chuffed’ as a family, no more so than XX after his difficult year. This was a second attempt at a vasectomy reversal as my first failed. John left no stone unturned and discovered historical damage from a hernia repair from my childhood and 2 small areas of damage after my original vasectomy. I had an initial consultation with Mr McCloughlin at the BMI Bury St Edmonds. I’d spent quite some time researching reversal surgery and based on Johns experience I contacted him and made an appointment for an initial consultation. We met the next week and John ran through all the details of the procedure and explained the factors which influence the outcomes of the procedure. I’d had a vasectomy (by the heat method) in 2012. Vasectomys by heat tend to be more difficult to reverse due to the damage caused to the tubes, however John was certain that he could perform the surgery.
I was booked into the BMI for surgery two weeks later. The staff explained stage process and I was taken to my room. I waited here with my wife, whilst I waited for Mr McClouglin. I met all of the surgical team, who put me at ease as to what would happen and what to expect. After surgery I went back to my room to recover. I was discharged later that evening and went home. The recovery was two weeks of bed rest with ibuprofen to manage the discomfort. I was fully recovered and back at work two weeks later.
6 months later I had seamen analysis completed and the report stated that all levels were normal and within the ranges expected by the World Health Organisation. I’m happy to say that my wife and I are now 16 weeks pregnant and before I’d consulted with John I’d never have imagined that we would be sharing this amazing news.

I had a semen analysis completed by Cambridge IVF which concluded that all levels were deemed normal according to the WHO.

I had a vasectomy almost 14 years ago after having 2 children with my first wife. After we split, I married again, and my wife has no children of her own. I went for a reversal operation about 3 years ago with a different consultant , whichever was unsuccessful …
We were advised then to try IVF as the first Consultant said a second reversal wasn’t an option…..so had a surgical extraction and had 2 failed IVF attempts …

I consulted Dr. Google and he advises that normal sperm count is anything from 15M/ml to 200M/ml so 16.5M/ml really is pleasing considering what my poor old vas deferens have been through over the years! Everything healed up reasonably quickly although I still have a numb patch on my scrotum just at the base of my penis and the cut itself is still sensitive to touch. But I think that will continue to settle over time.
I meant to add that I wish I’d seen you sooner instead of putting my wife through IVF unnecessarily. In fact I think XXX should have advised us to try a re-reversal before encouraging us to proceed with IVF – something I’m considering writing to them about. I thought your service was excellent, especially the way you were prepared to investigate the cause and then do the most appropriate surgery even if that took more time and effort. Thank you so much!

I would like to give you my insight to my recent vasectomy reversal in September 2016. On arrival I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and once I explained who I was, I was told to take a seat in the waiting area unit my porter appeared to take me to my personal room. This was the first time I had used private hospital so did not know what to expect. I had not to worry as it had everything I may need from a TV, Bath, shower and toilet. Once shown to my room, I see several people involved with my procedure anaesthetist, nurses and of course catering, which was what I was looking forward to most, having no food and drink, in preparation for my operation. So after going through the checks they all needed to do before my operation, it was a waiting game as to when I would head down to surgery, having been told I was last on the list. I thought to myself at least there be no rush for me on the operating table. When my time came the porter took me to the where I had to be. At all this time I felt at ease to the point I was laid on the bed and being prepped ready for the operation. In all I was out for 4 hours and when I woke up it was like someone had turned a light on and it was over. I did not feel any pain nor did I while I was there, I had some discomfort trying to move to get comfortable once back in my room and trying to sleep at night. When I got back to my room my partner was there to greet me feeling sorry for what she had put me through bless her. But I told her I was fine and it was not painful and felt ok strangely. But feeling a bit groggy still from my operation Mr McLaughlin thought it best I stay overnight just to be safe, as I had a slight low blood pressure. Then all going well, I could go home mid-morning once Mr McLaughlin had seen me to check I was ok. While I stayed overnight the nurse sure took care of me checking I was ok and also feeding me. I’d like to thank all that were involved with my visit and hope I can share the good news in due time.

‘How easy was that?’……..You’ll read many testimonials, blogs, website information, statistics, and then you’ll read some more, and then you’ll add your own circumstances and come up with your own odds. We now know we gave ourselves the best opportunity when we booked to see John McLoughlin! We made contact, and following a call directly from John we booked the appointment to see him. I informed him of our circumstances, I had my vasectomy 10 years ago and I am now 47 years old, my wife also has Endometriosis at the age of 30 which can effect fertility. After a little physical examination it was also apparent that one of my tubes was cut much higher than the other. This didn’t phase John at all and his honesty and confidence reassured us enough and we thought we’d have enough of a chance to conceive in the future, so we booked in for the operation.
How easy then?……We spoke to John in Jan 2016, we met him within weeks, I had the operation on 3rd Feb 16, I recovered comfortably (we gave ourselves the full 3 weeks of abstinence, give or take a day or two due to the shortened tube), I gave a sample early April 2016, still organised through John, mid April John called to give us the results of 52m sperm present in the sample which is still enough. 19th May 2016 my over-excited wife showed me a BFP, we have the 12 week scan in a few days time and she is due January 2017. We believe that it’s not just the results, but how you get them! We have news…. Dear Mr McLoughlin So, ‘your odds are low’ you said; ‘it will take at least a year you said’….Well, my partner XX had his surgery on 1st June and – guess what? Baby due 6th March 2017! I’ll admit we didn’t quite make the 28 day ‘exclusion period’ (ok, we didn’t even make 14 days) but we were very careful and you obviously did a bloody good job. I did stop him cycling until yesterday though! Thank you so much. Obviously, there is a long way to go with this pregnancy and anything could happen yet as it’s such early days, but it has been confirmed by the doctor and I have my first midwife appointment on 9th August. But the boys are most definitely swimming! We’re over the moon and feel very blessed and fortunate that we found you. I have just received my post-op sperm results and am pleased to inform you that my sample was considered ‘normal’ by the clinic. 179m were present in the sample following 5 days of abstinence. 34% were active swimmers, 7% alive but no movement, 59% dead. PH 8. Thank you very much for doing a great job, despite the complications resulting from the initial vasectomy. I found the whole experience very professional and friendly and would highly recommend you to anyone wishing for a vasectomy reversal.

My wife did a great deal of research in to the possible options we had in having a baby following my vasectomy which I had 21 years ago. She researched various options such as IVF, ICSI and reversal. We found that most people gave the reversal the least possible chance of conceiving due to the time that had passed. We started down pursuing the ICSI route and visited a local BMI clinic who advised on surgical sperm removal and the ICSI. We did the visits several times and had some of the tests before fully committing. Various issues were identified and we delayed the treatment for several months. The cost kept going up with no guarantees that it would work so my wife again researched the reversal option. She contacted several consultants offering the service with most feeling like a sales service. While we were looking for consultants we came across John McLoughlin’s website. The difference we found was he gave clear concise information and referred to actual statistics from the Urology association regarding the procedure. We contacted him and he arranged to contact us that evening by phone. He contacted us direct and talked us through the options with no obligation. He told us the positive and negatives of the procedure and the other options we had researched. We felt through this conversation that he was the consultant we were going to choose and the very next day we booked him. One thing to note we decided to travel from Sunderland so we could have him do the reversal. We decided that we both had a week off coming so we asked him if he could do it at short notice. He said he would try and help us and arranged us to go in at short notice. We were greeted at the hospital taken to our room and dealt with by committed, friendly staff. Mr McLoughlin came in to see us shortly after arrival and everything was sorted efficiently and quickly. Service with a smile was excellent. All of the team involved in the procedure and stay were excellent. I had the operation at the end of October 2015 and now February 2016 my wife is now 7 weeks pregnant. We did not even need to take the test to see if the operation had worked. We are now expecting our baby who is due to arrive October this year. I had a vasectomy over 12 years ago, however as my circumstances changed and I met my new partner having a family was something we both really wanted. We met with Dr McLoughlin who discussed our options regarding a reversal. He clearly explained the process and was honest and transparent with us about our chances of success. After 13 years prior to a vasectomy my partner and I decided we wanted to take our life’s to the next stage and so we decided to enquire about a vasectomy reversal and so did some investigating we believe the right choice was Mr mcloughlin and he was really forthcoming and helpful with how we proceeded next so following all instructions the operation went smoothly as a day procedure and yes it was painful and uncomfortable afterwards but a successful operation I knew to expect this and was willing to go through the pain to hopefully achieve our end goal so after the three months my partner and I went to have the tests for my sperm count which came out a little bit low and reduced mobility but despite all the worry just 4 months after my operation and tests my partner and I got a shock and a great start to 2017 and a late present for christmas when my partner had done three tests to be sure but we got the news we wanted and are expecting our first child in September 2017 we can’t thank Mr mcloughlin and his team enough for making our dream a reality with all our greatest respect and admiration. Following a previous failed vasectomy reversal, my wife and I were unsure of any further options available to us. After many internet searches, I came across Mr McLoughlin, and made enquiries about the epididymovasostomy procedure he was experienced in. Mr McLoughlin called me the next day, and was extremely courteous and patient, explaining the differences between the new procedure and the standard reversal. His qualifications and experience made us decide to travel so far and take the chance that this may give us the hoped for result.
We travelled four hundred miles to the BMI Bury St Edmunds Hospital for the procedure. Throughout the day, we were treated with the utmost courtesy, care and respect. We were given a spacious private suite. The staff were exceptional, and treated my wife very well while I underwent the operation. Before the procedure, Mr McLoughlin explained the options, and afterwards explained in detail what procedure he had carried out. As it transpired, a second attempt at a normal reversal would not have been possible. Without the option of the epididymovasostomy procedure, I would have wasted a lot of time and money.

Thank you for your letter. I thought we had sent the results to you. I asked the Bury St Edmunds hospital for your email address, but the said the didn’t have it. In the meantime, I asked a Urologist friend for an opinion and told me exactly as you write, good result. Thanks very much. The scars are fully healed and uniform. I hang a little higher than before but the trousers fit. Thanks again. A night in agony in a Bury St Edmunds hotel was well worth it. I’ll let you know when there are further consequences of your skill.

I had a vasectomy over 12 years ago, however as my circumstances changed and I met my new partner having a family was something we both really wanted. We met with Dr McLoughlin who discussed our options regarding a reversal. He clearly explained the process and was honest and transparent with us about our chances of success. Overall I felt fully informed and hopeful. The procedure went well, with minimal scarring and not as much pain as I expected. Dr McLoughlin contacted me following the procedure and was frank about the results which indicated a good sperm count, but ‘not great swimmers’ which still tickles us today. Within 6 months my partner fell pregnant. Sadly this was not to be, however a year later she fell preganant again and we are now blessed with our beautiful and happy 2 and a half year old son. Dr McLoughlin helped make a potentially stressful situation easier and we will always be grateful to him for helping to provide us with the family we always wanted.
When making a decision to have a vasectomy reversal I think it is important to choose someone who you fell can increase your chances of success. Dr McLoughlin was recommended to me by a friend who had a successful vasectomy reversal and a son, and I have also recommended him to another friend who has recently had a little boy too, which is great. Nobody plans to have a reversal when they initially have a vasectomy. I have three beautiful boys from my first marriage and wouldn’t change that for the world. Following the breakdown of my first marriage I spent some time working out the whole weekend dad thing and had, still have, lots of quality time with my sons. I met xx and fell stupidly in love. Thing went from great to better in our relationship. She knew from the start I had the vasectomy and knew we wouldn’t ever have children together. xx had no children of her own. As we progressed we spoke regarding how amazing it would be to have a product of our love. The more we talked the more we looked at the possibility of a reversal. We spoke with Mr. Mcloughlin at the bmi hospital in Bury St Edmunds. He warned the procedure would not be easy, because of the style of vasectomy that I had, as well as the risks of an unsuccessful procedure as it was more than nine years since my vasectomy. My partner and I discussed this and decided the risk was definitely worth it. Following the procedure, which was conducted extremely professionally by friendly staff, and after a very nervous wait, the results of my sperm test came back. I have 25.9 million sperm per mil. With good motility. After eight months, following the operation. xx fell pregnant and we are currently at 8 weeks. It is still very early days although if all goes to plan, we will have a 9-10wk old on the day of our wedding. We are both overjoyed.

From reception to discharge, they made me feel relaxed, comfortable and well cared for. The operation went well, and I was soon discharged… very little pain or discomfort followed. We got together about 8 years ago Initially the issue of not having children wasn’t a major thing but with when my sister had her first it became more and more difficult as I knew we would never had one of our own. We had tried to see someone before in our area but the doctor wanted £250 before he would even give us an appointment which we felt unfair as we were as that stage just trying to get a feel at what our chances were. Xx and myself are pleased to inform you of the birth of our little girl xxx, she was born on 18th of November. We would like to thank you and your team for the successful vasectomy reversal operation I received in October 2014. We started trying 3 months after the operation and it appears xx was conceived in Valentines day. We have enclosed some copies of the scans, also a photo of her & her birth card. During our consultation we discovered that after a period of about 11 yrs between the original vasectomy and the planned reversal, the chances of it working were pretty much 50/50. We decided to take our chances, we booked in for the vasectomy reversal in March 2011, after a relatively painless procedure, we were told to give ourselves 12months in order to fall pregnant. In March 2012, almost a year to the day, we were meeting our 1st daughter followed promptly by our 2nd daughter in Sept 2013……simply amazing! I had a vasectomy 11 years ago at the age 28,after having children and thought this was the best thing as I felt I had completed my family. a few years down the line I had a marriage break up and never thought id want any more children. after a couple of years I met somebody else, and entered a relationship, she also had children from previous relationship, which was not an issue . we got married and we had spoken about children together, and the options and told by my gp that i was thinking about a reversal, i was told that if was looking for a reversal that I would have go private as nhs do not do reversals. we couldn’t afford this at the time so we had to save hard. after we had saved we made an appointment to see Dr Mcloughlin, which he was very helpful and gave lots of advice and information.
I booked my operation in for feb2015,i had to stay overnight but went home first thing in morning. i wasn’t in a great deal of pain, it was more discomfort due to swelling. after 3 months, june 2015, I had to give a sperm sample to see if my operation was successful. I waited 1/2wees for results very anxiously, but it was worth the wait. I’m currently 39 yrs old and thought that may affect the success rate, but when I received my result I couldn’t of been happier, i had a positive result with an excellent sperm count. I was very pleased with medical care and aftercare that I have received. im now looking to expanding my family due to the help of Dr Mcloughin

I had a vasectomy over 25 years ago so when my wife and I decided to try for a child hopes were not high, this was compounded by the fact we weren’t spring chickens I was 46 and my wife was 38, as IVF was not an option a reversal was our only hope. Mr Mcloughlin briefed us as to the chances of a successful operation, the odds of success, due to our age and the length of time since I had had the vasectomy were pretty low, never the less Mr Mcloughlin was upbeat and we decided to go ahead. The operation went well and I submitted a sperm sample. A few days later we received a letter from Mr Mcloughlin informing us that I had the sperm count of a twenty year old! A week later my wife was pregnant and we now have a beautiful daughter. We will always be grateful to Mr Mcloughlin and his team, and would recommend without hesitation.
